FoundHER Mode Launches Movement to Empower Female Founders & Leaders
Seattle, September 16, 2024 — FoundHER Mode announces its first campaign ahead of its official launch, introducing a movement dedicated to elevating and supporting female founders and leaders in traditionally male-dominated industries, specifically technology and finance. Inspired by the recent #FounderMode trend sparked by Paul Graham's essay—and the subsequent outpouring of women's voices highlighting unique challenges—FoundHER Mode aims to address support gaps for women in these fields.
"FoundHER Mode is more than just a platform; it's a long-overdue movement that women are eager for," said Danielle Williams, Founder & CEO of FoundHER Mode. "By listening and understanding that no two women's experiences are the same, we aim to provide support and resources that genuinely resonate."
Addressing Key Obstacles in Gender Representation
FoundHER Mode focuses on two primary challenges contributing to the gender gap:
-
Confidence and Opportunity Gap
Women are less likely to pursue opportunities beyond their current experience. A McKinsey & Company study found that women apply for jobs only when they meet 100% of the qualifications, whereas men apply when they meet just 60%. This hesitancy limits women's advancement into leadership roles and entrepreneurial ventures. FoundHER Mode encourages women to embrace new challenges through mentorship and educational resources.
-
Perception Bias in Evaluation
When seeking funding or career advancement, women are often judged based on past accomplishments rather than future potential. A study published in the Academy of Management Journal revealed that investors tend to ask male entrepreneurs "promotion-focused" questions about potential gains, while female entrepreneurs are asked "prevention-focused" questions about potential losses. According to the study:
"Investors prefer pitches that are promotion-focused, which leads to male entrepreneurs raising significantly more funding than female entrepreneurs."
This bias hampers women's ability to secure necessary resources. FoundHER Mode aims to shift this by highlighting women's potential and connecting them with supportive investors.
A Unique Approach: Listening to Empower
Prioritizing a deep understanding of diverse experiences, FoundHER Mode is:
-
Gathering Stories and Feedback: Engaging with women to learn about their challenges and needs.
-
Building a Community: Fostering a supportive network for connection and collaboration.
-
Identifying Unseen Gaps: Using insights to pinpoint areas needing attention.
"Effective solutions start with genuine understanding," added Danielle. "By listening to women's voices—especially following the #FounderMode conversations—we aim to create resources that truly empower them."
Expanding Horizons
Based in Seattle, FoundHER Mode plans to build a virtual hub and expand with local chapters in cities like San Francisco, New York, Miami, and Houston. The movement seeks to attract both new and experienced founders, leaders, and investors interested in women-backed and female-centric ventures.
